Southern Comfort – One Of A Kind

Added 24th November 2009 by Paul

Advert: SOUTHERN COMFORT – ONE OF A KIND
Music: DAVID SHIRE – THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 MAIN TITLE

This is one of several slightly different ads from Arnold Worldwide asking “What Is Southern Comfort?”. Alongside One Of A Kind, see also Celebration, Genius and Tapestry. The music used in all of them is the main title of the classic movie score from the brilliant original 1975 Walter Matthau version of The Taking of Pelham 123 (as opposed to the rubbish 2009 John Travolta version) composed by David Shire. It’s one of the most famous movie scores ever, and often pops up on TV documentaries – it’s even been used on The Apprentice. The CD is tough to get hold of, but you can an imported version from Amazon, and it’s also on iTunes – just use the links below. You can also get the DVD from Amazon for just £2.98 delivered!

You are my hero right now. I have been trying to track down this song since around midnight when a random burst of it flowed through my head (it’s now 7:40 am)– Not only do I now have the song thanks to you, but I can also officially go to bed! :) Seriously, though– this song is absolutely fantastic!

Ditto. Been a fan of the music in this movie (the original “The Taking of Pelham 123″) forever. I could have sworn I went looking for this soundtrack on iTunes and didn’t find it — assumed the soundtrack for such an old movie wouldn’t exist anywhere.

I instantly recognized it on the “Southern Comfort” commercial, then searched the interwebs about it and hit this page, which told me the soundtrack WAS on iTunes. “You’re a regular Fiorello La Guardia.” Thanks!!!
