Advert: Nationwide – SavingsWatch
Music: Olivia Svensson – Stand By Me
Download the Ben E King version from iTunes
This Nationwide Building Society ad features a specially recorded cover version of Ben E King’s classic Stand By Me, written by King in 1960 with the great Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The version in the ad is another mellow female-fronted cover of a popular song, and as such Nationwide scores zero points for originality. But who sings the song? After a period of hushed secrecy, Nationwide have announced that the singer is (…drumroll…) Olivia Svensson, from Sweden. Unfortunately this track has been withdrawn from the iTunes UK store. You can, however, download the Ben E King version.

Even the nationwide website says its available:

Wonder if it’s been pulled for some reason. Doesnt appear to be available anywhere. Might try using a proxy us server and logging on to us iTunes
Not available in the UK iTunes store
Thanks for pointing that out. Jez
I haven’t been able to find out why. It is now listed on Amazon as well, but not available, with no date for release.
Rachel McGoye did a version of this a while back would be worth comparing the two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryB37Ane-bU .
it’s now on itunes!
Yes it is, thanks Anna, the post has been updated with a download link ^^.
By the time this version is released everyone will be fed up with it.
Poor planning for this girl – it could have really kicked off her career big time.

Now YouTube has a Korean singer.. Olivia Ong doing it.. are these wires crossed? Seems shes `prolific` where she performs and a damned good live singer. Talented youth again.. HOW do the agencies pick these up..
Just to clarify Keith, the singer in the Nationwide ad is not Olivia Ong, so no wires crossed there.
It’s a nice version of a great song – very acoustic, very honest. Should be released.
Nuts, brainwash us with a good version of a song they could sell.. but no.. we are told to wait.. so many agencies are using old or redone tunes now with different singers..so now its either Cowell, or ad agencies.. I`m pleased Louise Dearman got Confused.. at least its boosted her already successful musical stage career.
