Advert: John Lewis – 150th Anniversary
Music: Gaz Coombes – This Time Tomorrow
John Lewis is 150 years old in 2014, a major anniversary celebrated in this TV ad. The first John Lewis store opened on London’s Oxford Street on 2 May 1864. The ad, created by Adam & Eve/DDB, celebrates how the store has been present in customers’ lives throughout its history, and swaps out the ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ motto for ‘Never Standing Still’. ‘For 150 years you’ve never stood still. Neither have we,’ says the ad. The music is a cover of The Kinks’ This Time Tomorrow, from the 1970 album Lola Versus Powerman. The cover is by Gaz Coombes, formerly of Supergrass. Gaz recorded the track specifically for the ad, and it has been released as a single. You can download This Time Tomorrow from iTunes.
