Honda present a cinematic space travel-inspired TV ad, from W+K London, showcasing the company’s range of cars, motorbikes, robotics, aviation and racing technologies. Listen out for the voice of Ayrton Senna, and look out for Jenson Button and the Honda robot Asimo. The sound design, from Factory, incorporates three pieces of music. First, in the car, we hear the children’s song A Trip in a Rocket Ship by the Peter Pan Orchestra and Chorus, from the 1962 album The Magic Land of Allakazam. It’s pretty obscure, and not available to download, but you can listen to the full song via YouTube. Next we hear Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No 5 in C Minor, commonly known as “Beethoven’s Fifth”, easily one of the best-known and most popular pieces of classical music ever composed. Beethoven’s Fifth is available to download on iTunes. Finally we hear a piece from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. It’s an aria sung by the Queen of the Night character called Der Hölle Rache Kocht In Meinem Herzen (Hell’s Vengeance Boils In My Heart), but more commonly known in English as the Queen of the Night’s Aria. Mozart’s Queen of the Night’s Aria is available to download on iTunes.
