Advert: HSBC – Super Rare
Music: James Ray – I’ve Got My Mind Set On You
HSBC promote their retail banking offering with another heartstring-puller of a TV ad, this one featuring a girl searching for a super rare football sticker. The song is I’ve Got My Mind Set On You by James Ray, which was later popularised by George Harrison. The song was written by Rudy Clark and originally recorded by Ray and released in 1962. George Harrison’s cover version, slightly re-titled Got My Mind Set On You, was a UK number two hit in 1987. James Ray was an early favourite of the Beatles, although by the time the Fab Four were famous Ray had died of a drug overdose, while still in his early 20s. Ray’s original version of I’ve Got My Mind Set On You features on the Caprice Records compilation and is available to download on iTunes.
