About
What’s all this about, then?
Erm, TV ads. Television adverts. Commercials. And the music used in them. The tunes that sell you stuff, basically.
Why?
Because if you say you’ve never watched a funky ad and thought, ‘I wonder what that tune is…’, then you, sir, are probably a big fat liar.
So it’s a big list of adverts?
It’s a little bit more than that, but you’ve got the principle right. The aim of the site is to help you find out what that song is that’s been bugging your head. You know, the one from that advert. And then you can buy it. We tell you the name of the song, and link to Amazon.co.uk and iTunes so you can get the CD or download the track. You can watch most of the ads right here on the site, and listen to clips of lots of the tracks.
So what is the music featured on such and such an ad?
If it isn’t featured on our homepage, search through our archives – the ads are sorted A to Z by brand, or you can use the search box at the top right of your screen. If you can’t find it there, try posting a question on the forum. Sorry, but we can’t answer queries by email. Apologies if that seems rude, but we get so many requests that it is simply impossible to reply to them all, and you’ll get a quicker response from the many helpful bods on the forum. And do bookmark the site and check for regular updates.
Why isn’t such and such an advert listed?
We try to list most current ads featuring notable music. But it can take a few days, or even a week or so, for us to identify the track and post it on the site. Also, note that we only list ads shown on UK TV. We don’t normally list ‘one-off’ ads, such as those for an upcoming TV show. As for older ads, listing every ad ever made would be an impossible task. And pretty thankless. It’s highly unlikely anyone would want to know what the tune on the 1982 Dairylea ad was. So the criteria for an ad to be listed is that is has to be memorable. This could be because it’s current or recent, or because it was a good ad, or had good use of a tune. Also, we’ve tried to list every ad for companies with reputations for using ad music, like Levi’s and Gap.
How can I support the site?
We don’t charge a penny for the information we provide, but we do have running costs to cover. Buying CDs or downloads through our Amazon.co.uk or iTunes links raises a few pennies and keeps the site going. Clicking on our other carefully selected ads also helps. But if you’ve found the site particularly useful please consider leaving a donation, some say tip. Just click on the Tip Jar logo on the right and pay securely using a credit or debit card. Thanks a lot!
