Advert: VOLKSWAGEN POLO – THE TIMELESS NEW POLO
Music: PINK – BAD INFLUENCE
Safety, natural beauty and good design are the three attributes VW are highlighting about the “timeless new Polo”, and they’ve chosen an established pop star to soundtrack the ad – Pink with Bad Influence, from her Funhouse CD.
Advert: VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT – ONE THING
Music: MORECAMBE AND WISE COVER VERSION – POSITIVE THINKING
A strange ad on two counts. First, it’s a car ad with no car in it for the first 35 seconds. Second, the hero – some say protagonist – appears to be a recently-made-redundant city worker, perhaps even a (whisper it) banker… Attempting to get viewers to sympathise with a banker in the current climate is a brave tactic indeed. The song the possible-banker is singing is a Morecambe & Wise ditty. You don’t want the banker’s version, but you can get the original here:
Advert: VOLKSWAGEN NEW GOLF – BEATING YOURSELF
Music: JEANS TEAM – KEINE MELODIEN
This eye-catching Matrix-style ad features a fairly obscure piece of German electronica from 2000. Keine Melodien (‘No Melodies’) is from Jeans Team’s Ding Dong album, which is pretty much impossible to get hold of. Luckily, it’s featured as part of 2 Many DJs’ As Heard on Radio Soulwax Vol.2 CD. It’s also featured as track 26 on Ministry of Sound’s Neue Heimat: Electronic Music Made in Germany CD. It’s also available as an iTunes download.
