The most hotly-anticipated TV ad of the year, the John Lewis 2015 Christmas ad, is here. The ad features the story of a young girl called Lily who spies an elderly Man on the Moon through her telescope, and sends him a special gift to make him feel less alone. Using the hashtag #ManOnTheMoon and the tagline “show someone they’re loved this Christmas”, the ad brings a message of thinking of the elderly this festive season, with John Lewis partnering with charity Age UK.

The ad is soundtracked by a cover version of the Oasis song Half the World Away, written by Noel Gallagher and originally released as a b-side to the single Whatever in 2004, then included on the compilation The Masterplan. It’s probably best known as the theme tune to the BBC sitcom The Royle Family. The cover is performed by 19-year-old Norwegian singer AURORA, full name Aurora Aksnes, who releases her debut album, Winter Bird, in 2016. Aurora’s cover version is available to download on iTunes.
