Russia 2018 starts on 14 June, and here’s the BBC World Cup trailer to whet the appetite, featuring a remarkable stop-motion loom embroidery animation, which uses real embroidered frames rather than computer animation. The theme music is a bespoke version of the traditional Russian folk song Ochi Chernye (Dark Eyes), arranged by composer Alex Baranowski, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the 40-piece London Metropolitan Orchestra featuring bass-baritone Sir John Tomlinson.
