A school play that begins modestly but ends spectacularly is the charming – if familiar – premise for the Sainsbury’s Christmas 2018 TV ad. It’s familiar because the same premise was used in the John Lewis & Partners launch ad back in September. Work for this ad, though, began back in January, and it’s good enough that few viewers will have any complaints over the similarity. It was directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed The Greatest Showman, and features 60 children, including eight-year-old Tia Isaac from London, who sings lead vocals as the Christmas Star. The song is You Get What You Give, originally a hit for the New Radicals in 1998. This version is credited to The North Star and Friends x Sainsbury’s, and is available to download on iTunes.
