Another year, another 275 or so music adverts added to our database. But which were the most popular? This list compiles the top 10 most requested ads here at TVAdMusic.co.uk in 2008.
It might surprise many that thefeaturing Chairlift’s Bruises (Handstands) failed to make the top 10. Also just missing out on the final chart were the featuring the music of Lonely Drifter Karen, and the .
But which ads did make the list? Here, in reverse order, is the top ten:
Advert: MICROSOFT XBOX – TOMB RAIDER UNDERWORLD
Music: LAMB – GORECKI
The track is more than ten years old, but Lamb’s Gorecki gained a new legion of fans thanks to its use in this ad for the latest adventures of Lara Croft. It’s featured on Lamb’s aptly-named ‘Best Kept Secrets’ CD.
Advert: VOLVO XC60 CROSSOVER – FROM SWEDEN WITH LOVE
Music: SALEM AL FAKIR – IT’S ONLY YOU (PART II)
“Come and see your new car,” says a man from Sweden. Then everything gets really exciting, with cars being constructed in midair, and then spinning around amid fireworks and kisses and… oh, it’s a Volvo. Predictably, the ad ends with something about safety. Yawn. Apart from safety-conscious cars, the Swedes have always produced good pop music, and the track on this ad is from Swedish popster Salem Al Fakir. “It’s Only You (Part II)” is a re-recording of a track from his debut album “This Is Who I Am”. Exciting adverts for boring cars with catchy pop music – from Sweden with love.
Advert: WAITROSE – JOURNEY HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Music: LIBERA – HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING?
This Christmas ad was extremely popular with visitors to this site, featuring choirboys Liberia. The track ‘How can I keep from singing?’, a traditional tune with words by R. Lowry and arranged by Robert Prizeman, is featured on the ‘Eternal – Best Of Libera’ CD, which was the biggest selling CD through TVAdMusic.co.uk this year.
Advert: AUDI R8 – THE SLOWEST CAR WE’VE EVER BUILT
Music: SIMONE WHITE – BEEP BEEP SONG
This ad was first shown back in 2007, but remained extremely popular in 2008. Simone White is from Hawaii, and this track was from her second album, ‘I Am The Man’.

Advert: THE CO-OPERATIVE – GOOD WITH FOOD / SAVE TIME FOR THE IMPORTANT THINGS THIS CHRISTMAS
Music: GABRIELLA CILMI – WARM THIS WINTER
It’s Gabriella ‘Sweet About Me’ Cilmi, with a festive cover of Connie Francis’s ‘Warm This Winter’. It’s included on the new 2-disc version of the ‘Lessons To Be Learned’ album – a harsh lesson for anyone who forked out for the original version. Gabriella had another TV Ad Music hit this year – Sweet About Me was featured Sure’s Upside Down ad.

Advert: ORANGE – PAY AS YOU GO ANIMALS
Music: BORN RUFFIANS – HUMMINGBIRD
This is the one where hundreds of animal-shaped balloons float from a train in Buenos Aires. Memorable, even if it doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Advert: VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN – CHANGING CITY
Music: ANDREW WEATHERALL – FEATHERS
This UK version of the Tiguan ad features a dance track by Andrew Weatherall. (Confusingly, there is another version of the ad featuring a specially-recorded track by the Human Worldwide agency.)

Advert: APPLE MACBOOK AIR – THE WORLD’S THINNEST NOTEBOOK
Music: YAEL NAIM – NEW SOUL
Israeli-French singer/songwriter Yael Naim was this year’s Jose Gonzales, coming from seemingly nowhere with a smash hit on the back of an ad.
Advert: MARKS & SPENCER CLOTHING – LIGHTHOUSE
Music: ERIKA EIGEN – I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER
This ad found favour with many TVAdMusic.co.uk visitors because it featured Mylene Klass in a bikini. Oh, and Erika Eigen’s I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper, an obscure addition to Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange movie soundtrack. The CD is pretty hard to come by – there are some expensive second hand ones on Amazon – but iTunes has the track available to download.
Advert: LYNX DARK TEMPTATION – CHOCOLATE MAN
Music: ALLEN TOUSSAINT – SWEET TOUCH OF LOVE
Bizarre and apparently slightly controversial, our most requested ad of 2008 was this one for Lynx (or Axe, as it is known outside of the UK), which sees a man turned into chocolate by a (presumably highly faulty) deodorant spray, and then having chunks bitten out of him by avaricious ladies. New Orleans R&B legend Allen Toussaint provides the fab soundtrack.
